It’s almost that time again!

fatshionfebruary:

I’m starting to think about what I’d like to get out of this project this year and I am (as always) so excited to spend the month admiring everyone’s fashions! More info coming as soon as I work things out. The thing I love most about Fatshion February is how responsive it is, and how it’s become so much more than I ever could have dreamed of 3 years ago. <3 you all!

Belated Day 27 of Fatshion February
This is why I’ve been so bad at Fatshion February. This is my Afro-Brazilian dance group (like I’ve said before, there aren’t many fat dancers out there). For the past month, I’ve been at dance rehearsals for half the week and exhausted the other half of the week. We were supposed to perform at a mini Brazilian festival tomorrow, but our performance space has been rained out.
We did this photo shoot for mX (a daily free newspaper in Sydney) on Monday when the sun was still shining. That’s me in the yellow dress up front; I’m dressed as Oxum. She is the Orixa, or spirit, who reigns over self-love (amongst other things). She’s basically perfect for me. :D
Oxum outfit: Belongs to my dance teacher. She made it.
I am 1.72m/5’8″, 95kg/209lbs and I normally wear an Australian size 16/UK size 18/US size 14-16. My measurements are 107-99-120cm/42-39-47 inches.

Day 19 of Fatshion February
This is certainly not my most ‘flattering’ outfit, but I wear this - or variations on this - a lot during the warmer months. I have a small collection of Mambo Loud Shirts in my wardrobe; I favour prints by Reg Mombassa (one of my favourite artists). Though these shirts are worn almost exclusively by middle-aged men at barbecues, they are classic pieces of Australiana kitsch and I bloody love them.

Day 12 coincided with Fair Day, a fun day in the park that kicks off the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras season. It was lovely until it got rained out.

Day 11 of Fatshion February

I was feeling really out of sorts all day but managed to get dressed so the Boyfriend and I could get some fancy dinner. That’s how dedicated I am to good food.

This photo really doesn’t do justice to the skirt. It’s fluoro yellow with a lace overlay. Ladylike meets raver. I love it.

Day 10 of Fatshion February

I took a few days off because, by the time I saw my photographer/boyfriend, I was either in exercise gear (I had a lot of rehearsals this week) or naked.

I call this set Taking photos at night sucks, but at least my new necklace is amazing.

Day 6 of Fatshion February
I wore a perfectly acceptable dress to work today, but this is something I’ve never shown on tumblr or on my blog - my exercise gear (with bonus underarm sweat patch!).
I do two styles of dance: samba and Afro-Brazilian. I bloody LOVE it. I do both once a week, but I’ve got an Afro-Brazilian performance coming up next month (we’ll be doing maracatu, samba de roda, and the dance of the orixas), so I have a couple of extra rehearsals each week. The Boyfriend took this photo after I came home from our first run through.
I’ve only just started performing, which is pretty exciting. I’m trying to source a plus size samba bikini so I can perform samba no pé (the style you see at carnaval), but it is proving to be extremely difficult. There aren’t many fat samba dancers out there. This means I am extra determined - and extra terrified - to perform half-naked in a sequined bra and g-banger.

Day 5 of Fatshion February
The weather was glorious in Sydney today. I spent the afternoon lying on my blanket under some trees and drinking Asahis at a funk picnic in the park.

I had an all-day brain fart yesterday and totally forgot about the start of Fatshion February. So this is Day 2 and my very first foray into this splendid month (I was an admirer from afar last year).
I’m looking/feeling rather clammy after a humid day at work, a dinner out and a show (Tim Minchin versus the Sydney Symphony Orchestra!). This is my kitchen, and if you look closely, you will see Michelangelo’s David’s cock gracing my pot holder.
