My Big Fat Manifesto
A couple of people have taken issue with the name of our tumblr: Hey, Fat Chick!
They say that the women in the pictures we post are not fat, they’re chubby or normal or real or healthy.
This all seems like an argument in semantics to me, because chubby is fat. When the average woman is an Australian size 16, normal is fat.
I think what people are really taking issue with are the negative associations with the word. Fat no longer just means the jiggly bits under the skin; it now involves whole lot of negative attributes: lazy, dirty, gluttonous, disgusting.
Fuck that.
We are reclaiming the word.
Fat is a celebration. The way these women fill out their clothes, the smooth curves, the second helpings, the way their bodies jiggle and fold and just beg for greedy hands, the softness, the way fingers can dig into them, the way they lie like a rubenesque painting… It is fat. And it is amazing.
What’s even more amazing is when a fat woman knows exactly what her body is, owns it and loves it. She’s an inspiration and pure sex all at once.
So the next time someone questions the name of our tumblr, this is where I’m directing them. Then they will see what an amazing compliment it is to be called ‘fat’.
