This is in response to a question posed to ilovefat (questions asked via tumblr can’t be reblogged).
So I was wondering if all the lovely ladies who follow this blog know anything about “Chub Rub”? You know the rubbing and chaffing between the inner thighs of us larger gals. I suffer from it from time to time and it can get pretty uncomfortable. Are there any remedies or methods we could all try to help prevent this or help cure it?
This response may go into too-much-information territory, but it’s impossible to talk about this problem without getting into detail.
I have this problem. Oh lordy, do I have this problem. Ever since I was little, I have had to deal with painful rashes on my inner thighs from my legs rubbing together as I walk. I’ve destroyed four pairs of jeans by wearing away the inseam with my mighty thighs.
It’s not just a girl thing, either. My big brother (who does bodybuilding = not fat at all) also has big thighs and he has the exact same problem.
As donewiththisshit suggested, one option is Body Glide Anti-Chafe Balm. It was initially designed for athletes and I bought my stick from a cycling store (the website lists stockists). The balm doesn’t exactly make your legs ‘glide’ across each other - it’s a waxy substance that provides a barrier.
PROS: 'Invisible' - you can wear it with the shortest of short skirts. Sweat resistant - that said, it will wear off during a full day of walking around. CONS: Distinct synthetic smell Some rubs off onto my underwear as I walk around You can only apply it once - I reapplied towards the end of the day and ended up with a very red, very painful rash.
PROS: Comfortable Thin - perfect for summer No muffin top - they come up to just under the boobs Affordable - only £5 each CONS: Shipping - can be annoying to order from the UK They roll up - I’m forever adjusting mine Mid-thigh length - your skirts/dresses will have to be long enough to cover them up Seam - a seam runs along the front from the crotch up to the top of the shorts. If I wear anything bodycon, the seam is very visible on my stomach.
A similar option is lightweight shorts from Canadian company Thigh Society, however these only go up to a US size 20-22. They are looking into extending their range to US size 28-30.
PS. There was also a post on this on Fatshionista. It advises you where you can buy plus size bike shorts in the US.
“People always ask me, ‘You have so much confidence. Where did that come from?’ It came from me. One day I decided that I was beautiful, and so I carried out my life as if I was a beautiful girl. I wear colors that I really like, I wear makeup that makes me feel pretty, and it really helps. It doesn’t have anything to do with how the world perceives you. What matters is what you see. Your body is your temple, it’s your home, and you must decorate it.”—
